It's not Lyme's or Lymes or Limes Awareness Month

Lyme-not-Lyme’s Disease Awareness Month

Lymies of the world, we still don’t have disease recognition, accurate testing, sufficient research dollars, Lyme awareness in every state and country, and full insurance coverage for treatment in every state. We should at least get … proper spelling. Seriously — “Lyme” is four letters. Why the struggle?

Misspelling of Lyme disease as shown on two limes

It’s never an encouraging sign when a doctor does this:

Another unfortunate spelling variant you may have seen is “Lymes.”

Person asks me about Lymes disease spelled with an s

My relative made that comment to me more than a year ago, and unfortunately I did not have this comeback until, er, now. She still doesn’t believe in “Lymes” disease.

During the attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act,  I really did see a preexisting conditions list that said “Lyme’s disease.”

I find out they spelled Lyme disease wrong on the preexisting conditions list

Finally, you never know what a Random Drunk Guy will say …

Here’s a little video of this post. It was originally created as a Facebook slideshow by my awesome friend Lily from The Sleepy Girl Guide to Social Security Disability. Please check out her fantastic blog for super-detailed, helpful information about applying for disability, getting Medicaid, getting homecare, getting home modifications, and everything else a spoonie needs to know.

Hope you enjoyed that! I wish everyone a painless and low-symptoms day! 💜💚💛

Hi! I'm Vicki. My blog is called "Miss Diagnoses" because I have too many diagnoses and because my Lyme disease was misdiagnosed for many years. In addition to being a professional patient, I'm a compulsive reader and doodler. Sadly, my writing and drawing are limited by repetitive strain injury and neuropathy. I use assistive technology, but I can't post as often as I'd like. You can also find me on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and I have two short cartoon videos on YouTube.
