Chronic illness as a gift header

Some Say That Chronic Illness Is a Gift: A Cartoon with Two Endings

In my vague and fuzzy brain-fogged memory, I remember reading an interview in which someone said her chronic illness was a gift. I don’t remember where I read it, because brain fog.

I don’t want to insult anyone’s coping mechanism, but I can’t really get with thinking of chronic illness as a gift, even though I am trying to be more positive and less Debbie Downer this year.

Here’s the thing: if it’s a gift, we can send it back, right? I hope people who do a lot of online shopping will relate to these.

I’ve never done a four-panel cartoon, so that’s why it has two endings. Please vote for the ending that you like better.

Version 1:

Unconventional treatment part two

Version 2:

Trying to return my chronic illness and the post office is closed

I’m trying to learn these four-panel comics to develop my work and be more like a Real Cartoonist. They look simple but take ages—this one took weeks, because thanks to the Evil Tendinitis, I have to work on everything in short bursts and stretch, apply CBD oil beforehand, ice afterwards, and do exercises for my schlumpy posture. My massage therapist taught me a good trick which might help those of you who cook or do crafts. You soak a washcloth in a bowl of hot water mixed with about 3/4 cup of Epsom salts and then apply it to the sore forearm/hand/whatever. I thought I would share it for those of you who do crafts or cooking.

I wish everyone a low-pain day or even better, a no-pain day! And I hope you all have lots of spoons today! 💚💚💚

Most spoonfully,

Vicki

Hi! I'm Vicki. My blog is called "Miss Diagnoses" because I have too many diagnoses and because my Lyme disease was misdiagnosed for many years. In addition to being a professional patient, I'm a compulsive reader and doodler. Sadly, my writing and drawing are limited by repetitive strain injury and neuropathy. I use assistive technology, but I can't post as often as I'd like. You can also find me on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and I have two short cartoon videos on YouTube. 1. I’m a little partial to 2.
I understand saying-I’m glad I met so and so or, That I was able to better appreciate X……but, I might return the “gift” and pay the return shipping and restocking fees.

  2. Lol you did it again, very good one. I like both but maybe more#1 because we usually have to try so many unconventional methods or “treatments” so for once it’s not oil of X or a binaural whatever bowl to align chakras that’s being offered but a good old USPS post office.
