Valentines for Spoonies Part Two

Valentines for Spoonies: Part Two

Hello Spoonies and Happy Valentine’s Day…

Well, late 2018 and early 2019 have not been so friendly for me, as I got esophageal ulcers in November and hip bursitis and worsening of a preexisting labral tear in January (the labrum is a cartilage-like thingie in the hip). I also still have my always-fun tendinitis, I haven’t been able to take my Lyme herbals since getting the ulcers, and I’ve had an ongoing extremely dysfunctional family drama since the summer. I knew I was not going to be able to come up with a new Valentine’s Day concept (sad, because I love my illness-themed holiday posts), but I did expand upon last year’s idea (I think this was a worthy effort, given the excess medical wretchedness). 🙄

So here is Part Two—I hope you like my new spoonified Valentine cheesiness…

Here are the ones from Part One, in case you weren’t following me last year.

Also, I have been playing around with water-based markers— they have no smell! Yay!! It’s great to find real art supplies I can tolerate. Usually I have to stick to digital art because I can’t handle the nasty, toxic smell of regular markers.

Recently there was this annoying Ten-Year-Challenge thingie on Facebook and Instagram, in which people showed photos of themselves labeled “2009” and “2019,” after which all their followers would say, “Oh my goodness, you haven’t aged AT ALL!” Awww, shucks. 🙄

I first got sick around 2009, so my idea of the “ten-year-challenge” is er, different. These sketches are a spoonie parody I made with the water-based markers.

Hope those were relatable! 😀 Anyway, in my next few posts I will have a new cartoon series and more Spoonie Artist Guest Posts by artists with different invisible illnesses who use their art to raise awareness. Please check out my first from Alexandra Baker, a cartoonist and graphic designer with ME/CFS. Also here’s my extremely silly Lyme Sexy Tyme Valentine’s Day post from a few years back (please check it out if you want to know what “Lymedoms” are). 😜

Wishing everyone a low-symptoms day and night and of course Happy Valentine’ Day! 💚💜❤️

Hi! I'm Vicki. My blog is called "Miss Diagnoses" because I have too many diagnoses and because my Lyme disease was misdiagnosed for many years. In addition to being a professional patient, I'm a compulsive reader and doodler. Sadly, my writing and drawing are limited by repetitive strain injury and neuropathy. I use assistive technology, but I can't post as often as I'd like. You can also find me on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and I have two short cartoon videos on YouTube. 1. Hi Vickie, Claudia here! Your work was funny as usual! Great work on that! I’ll use some tomorrow ; ) I have been preparing Valentines since the weekend so that I don’t miss it if I get too tired the day off. I’m glad I did cause we have got a lot of snow clearing to do lol I was glad to hear from you and it’s good your health is a little better now. If you have energy to answer, how does a bursitis feel like for you compared to ‘normal’ pain? My chiropractor was wondering if I had one but it’s so hard knowing what’s fibro that transformed into chronic pain and a real injury in cases like ours. So any details would be appreciated ; )

      1. Thanks Vickie, interesting you mention a dull ache. Maybe it is what I have. Canada barely had any MRI but they use ultra sound a lot. I just need a script for one… but…Due to fly season and being unable to handle car rides I’m in a tough place to get tested. But I’m waiting a bit more till it’s not so dangerous for me to visit the local hospital and I will try an online doctor service that could hopefully provide the requisition. Ah, so complex when you have so many health issues at once. Thanks again for the laughs today. 🙂

    1. Yay! That makes me feel so happy! I was thinking of doing another bunch for next year but I wonder if it’s overkill. Anyway, I hope you get your ultrasound soon! Yes it is a nightmare when we have so many different things to deal with! 😦

    1. Thank you! Ha ha I actually had thought of a few for next year but I was wondering if it was overkill lol…There are so many romantic clichés that can be turned around and made to apply to diseases. 😁
