Difficult Relatives of Spoonies

Hello Spoonies,

Well, the holidays are over, and you may have had to encounter your relatives during some sort of festive celebration thingie. I know there are spoonies who have wonderful, supportive families, but the majority of people I’ve met have at least one family member who is … difficult.

Maybe they lack empathy, or maybe they mean well but are clueless because they’ve “never been sick a day in their lives.” Either way, they come up with some problematic comments. And so, here’s Part One …

I’ve been sick for years and I still get this comment!

Relative tells me I must have lots of free time

To date, no Difficult Relatives have cooked anything for me. I’m fairly sure something like this would happen:

Person says she baked gluten-free cake but it has whole wheat

Have you gotten any Difficult Relative comments? Please share if it will not retraumatize you …

Happy Post Holidays and Wishing You Lots of Low-Symptom Days Even Though It’s Winter and Everything is Achy and Yuck,

Vicki 💚

Hi! I'm Vicki. My blog is called "Miss Diagnoses" because I have too many diagnoses and because my Lyme disease was misdiagnosed for many years. In addition to being a professional patient, I'm a compulsive reader and doodler. Sadly, my writing and drawing are limited by repetitive strain injury and neuropathy. I use assistive technology, but I can't post as often as I'd like. You can also find me on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and I have two short cartoon videos on YouTube. 1. So true! Some people have an entire family full of them, lol.
Your comic (which is awesome by the way) reminds me of this past Christmas when my mom went out of her way to make a special desert for a new in-law who does not eat any sugar.
She used the regular chocolate, the regular cookie mix, and sprinkled with substitute coconut sugar 🤔
Poor mom… She tried (not really- at all) lol.
